House of Fraser

Introduction
House of Fraser is Britain's leading retailer of designer brands.

UDM has partnered with House of Fraser since 1995

Background
House of Fraser has 62 stores dispersed throughout the UK. Following numerous acquisitions, some stores are known under the banner of Jenners or Beatties.

The Challenge
House of Fraser required consolidation of print spend and identification of spend allocation.

House of Fraser had numerous print suppliers providing operational print and business forms production. Internal House of Fraser operations teams managed all relationships directly with their selected printer. The manufacturer only handled print produced by themselves. House of Fraser managed an additional 12 relationships with various other manufacturers.

Following a comprehensive audit process and extensive benchmarking process performed by UDM, House of Fraser awarded us the printing contract to deliver all their operational, business forms and stationery print solutions.

The Solution
UDM conducted a complete and in-depth audit process of House of Fraser's printed materials and warehousing requirements. We published an audit plan which ensures support from HoF's key stakeholders whilst also engaging with all HoF's print suppliers. All items produced were audited and benchmarked to provide an in-depth analysis to demonstrate current supply versus UDM proposed solution.

Working with the key stakeholders at House of Fraser, UDM was equipped to address agreed key deliverables:
  • Cost reduction and improved efficiencies
  • Consolidation of forms produced
  • Standardisation of corporate image
  • Simplification of administration procedures and call off processes
  • Process and service
  • Warehousing and distribution of both print and non print products
  • Central control of print expenditure
  • Technology

  Implementation
Following a review of the products supplied, we consolidated and identified each product into its appropriate work stream and benchmarked the products within the market place for efficiency and economy.  We appraised every project to match it with the optimal production route via our audited and approved supplier base.  UDM is independent, so we are both impartial and objective with our choice of suppliers.

This structured, intensive process driven programme was imperative to the success of addressing House of Fraser's requirements and in highlighting the weaknesses in the current supply chain.

UDM re-engineered House of Fraser's business process to drive supply chain efficiencies and cost savings.
During implementation UDM:
  • Re-sourced the supply of all products
  • Simplified warehousing procedures
  • Provide benchmarked pricing
  • Adhered to budgetary control mechanisms
  • Creation of brand library for consistent usage of corporate image
  • Provision of management reporting for expenditure analysis
  • Training for store not conversant in system functionality

The Results
Significant reduction in HoF's administration process and a 42% rationalisation of the quantity of forms being produced and used.

UDM delivered cost savings in excess of 20% within the first year, and have highlighted further savings year on year.

Through consolidation of HoF's print supply to one source, professional procurement and stringent vendor management strategies UDM improved the supply chain efficiencies and provided visibility of expenditure to House of Fraser.
